Texas Speech Lab

Clinical Speech-Language Pathology Services

Designed to meet the unique needs of every client.

Therapy Services

If you are seeking private speech therapy then you are in the right place.

The first step is to reach out and request an evaluation. If you have a current evaluation, I may be able to initiate therapy without the need to re-evaluate.

I can address communication needs in the areas of speech sounds, receptive and expressive language, stuttering and voice disorders.

I have two options for therapy: go to your home in-person or complete a virtual visit utilizing Google Meet.

I am offering therapy after school only.  My availability is from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday. By appointment only.

Consulting Services

The Special Education process in Texas can often be confusing and daunting for parents that are unfamiliar with school-based speech therapy services.

The SLP can consult with parents regarding the Special Education process and Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Understand that students must QUALIFY for special education first, before receiving speech therapy services in the public schools. Parents can make a written request for a speech evaluation to their campus principal when a student's communication skills are adversely affecting their progress in the classroom.

The SLP is not a legal advisor. If parents need legal advice, seek out an attorney that specializes in special education law.

Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)

The SLP can complete an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) for parents when there is a need for such an evaluation.

Clinician Profile

Maria A. Shelkey
MBA, MS, CCC-SLP

Hello!

I have been a Speech-Language Pathologist for 16 years, primarily in the public schools.

I love helping kids be the best communicators that they can be! It is so fulfilling to see kids be understood by their loved ones, especially when they FINALLY make a breakthrough in therapy to get their words out clearly.

My favorite therapy tool is books! I use wordless picture books for kids of all ability levels because it prompts them to tell the story on their own. Check out CHALK by Bill Thompson for a fun story about a rainy day at a playground.
